The seed for Emergency & Bushfire Kits, was planted in 2015, when our CEO and owner, Bridie McLennan, moved to a rural, bushfire prone area of Australia. Even with her 20+ years’ of passion and experience working in safety and emergency management, search and rescue, aviation (commercial pilot) and aerial fire-fighting management, she still struggled to efficiently and affordably put together an Emergency Bushfire Kit for her home.
Then she thought; ‘how does someone without any of this experience even start to do this’?
In 2018, Bridie began working full time on her plan to launch an online store, researching extensively not only the products to include, but the additional; advice, checklists and notices, to assist residents and businesses in their planning and actions, prior to and during emergency events.
In early 2019, ‘Bushfire Readiness Kits’ was launched with a range 6 different Kits on offer, with fit for purpose products, to assist the average Australian in evacuating and reaching safety during bushfires, or to increase their survival, if too late to leave and they need to shelter in place.
Our mission is to provide affordable, quality, emergency kits and safety equipment to all Australians, in an easy to understand and accessible format, from a trusted and reliable source.
By early 2020, we’d grown to 15 Kits, including a range for Pets, and a Build-Your-Own-Kit option, so people aren’t forced to double up or buy unnecessary products for their Kits. We’d also started providing Professional Kits for; government departments (employees travelling often by road), health care professionals, in their cars regularly for home visits, as well as large farms.
We decided it was time to commence the next step towards our full vision, and in February of 2020 we launched ‘Emergency & Bushfire Kits – Safety & Survival’, with kits not only for bushfires, but also; storms, floods, pets, camping, urban, vehicle and all emergencies, the ability to select any number of persons or pets the Kit needs to support – between 1 to 6, as well as a range of budgets/needs; Essential, Standard and Premium Kits. Resulting in a huge 90+ Emergency Kit options as well as 50+ individual products, to build your own kit.
Our vision is to contribute towards;
- Reducing human and animal trauma during natural and man-made disasters and crises.
- Increase comfort, endurance and survival capability, during and after emergency events.
- Reduce workload on emergency responders, by having well prepared and safely evacuated communities.
We are constantly learning, researching and improving our range of products, kits and advice, from experts in the fields of emergency management and response (operational and academic), as well as our other important experts – the community, asking and listening to what they need and find the most useful, when they’ve come face to face with a disaster.
