A host of free seminars will be available to visitors attending The Emergency Services Show, at the NEC in Birmingham, UK on 24 and 25 September. Open to all ranks throughout the fire and rescue service and industrial brigades, including overseas visitors, all seminars are free to attend and no booking is required.
The Innovation Theatre in association with Vodafone will cover the latest developments in surveillance, social media, mobile communications and PPE. Matthew Wroughton, West Midlands Fire Service will present a session about a software project to video stream live footage from smart phones during emergency calls. David Frodsham, Product Specialist at W.L. Gore & Associates will present on heat stress in firefighter PPE and Malcolm Peattie, a specialist advisor on CBRN PPE will also host a seminar.
Meanwhile international exhibitor TenCate is organising a complimentary study session on the subject of protective clothing for firefighters. Three experts in the field of PPE for fire and rescue services will talk about topics that include international standards, human physiology and ergonomics and a best practice case of a PPE approach to protective clothing. The study sessions will run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 September and be repeated on Thursday 25 between 9.00am and 12 noon. Places are free but have to be pre-booked via Tencate.
The Emergency Planning Society (EPS) is holding its annual conference at the NEC on the second day of The Emergency Services Show, 25 September. Entitled Dealing with the aftermath, the EPS conference will look at the impact on communities for nuclear contamination.
Entry and parking at The Emergency Services Show are free. The NEC is physically linked to Birmingham International Station and Birmingham Airport and is directly accessible from the UK motorway network. Coaches will run from Birmingham International Station to the exhibition halls and a 25 per cent discount is available to visitors booking travel with Virgin Trains.
